Why Family Matters?

Why Family Matters
at Cherokee Christian Schools?

The most straightforward answer to the question, “Why Family Matters at CCS?” is because families do indeed matter at CCS! In fact, they matter a lot!

But before I expand on that truth, it may be helpful to answer the question, “What is Family Matters?”

Depending upon your age, you may be thinking about a popular sitcom that aired for most of the 1990’s and featured thefamilymattersshow annoying, yet lovable “nerd”, Steve Urkel. While I’m not opposed to tapping into pop culture references to make helpful connections with an audience, our choice of the name, Family Matters, is definitely not intended to merely conjure up images in your mind of the once famous Urkel Dance (Google it if you’re curious).

So what are we talking about when we mention Family Matters at CCS? Well, it really isn’t just one thing. Rather, it is an area of significant emphasis, of critical focus, of epic priority for our school. Like the culture at large, CCS is only as strong as the families that comprise it. Unfortunately, the family, as it was originally designed by God, is under assault, and the ramifications are being felt in homes, communities, churches, and schools across the country. Our school is no exception.

Family Matters is just one more way we believe we can “step into the fray” to assist families. At the moment, it finds it primary expression through this online publication. Our intention is to publish about 4 to 6 issues each school year that will include feature articles, book reviews, devotionals, and Q&As, all directed at encouraging parents as they seek to faithfully train up their children in the way of the Lord.

In the future, we may expand our Family Matters emphasis to include things like live seminars, streaming media, and print publications. In the mean time, however, we simply want to provide informative, thought-provoking resources to families that will hopefully encourage them in the way and stir all of us up to greater love and good works (Hebrews 10:24).
